Most pets should get a yearly checkup. Senior pets usually benefit from exams at least every six months. Puppies and kittens need more frequent visits in year one.
We recommend the first exam soon after adoption so we can review parasite control, nutrition, and a vaccine plan based on age and risk. Puppies and kittens usually need a series of visits in the first months of life rather than a single vaccine appointment.
Timing depends on species, breed, size, and lifestyle, so we prefer to make that recommendation during an exam. We can explain the health benefits, surgery-day instructions, and what normal recovery should look like at home.
Bad breath, tartar buildup, gum inflammation, oral pain, and difficulty chewing are common warning signs. During an exam we evaluate the mouth, review medical history, and discuss pre-anesthetic testing to decide whether a dental procedure is appropriate. Educational videos can be added here later when they are available.
Quality-of-life changes such as uncontrolled pain, severe mobility decline, breathing distress, persistent loss of appetite, or loss of dignity at home can all be part of that conversation. We guide families through the decision with compassion and help them understand what support options are available.
